Blog postGet to know your board! – Treasurer Yorinde Kishna

30/09/2021

Again time for you to get to know one of our board members. Make sure to read it, so you actually know who is responsible for giving us all the budget to organize all of our great activities and provide us with nice Tiburón merch! Also don’t forget to check out our Instagram page to see a typical day in her life.

1.   Who are you and what are you up to, when you are not spending Time with Tiburon?

Hi Sharkies! My name is Yorinde, and I will be the treasurer this year. I am 21 years old and a first year Biomedical Sciences master student. I’m originally from Veldhoven, but this is my 4th year in Maastricht already as I did my bachelor in Health Sciences here as well. I usually like to keep myself quite busy, so when I’m not studying or spending time with Tiburón I love to hang out with my friends, play the cello and go to my hometown to visit my family and play underwater hockey.

2.  What made you decide to learn how to swim like a shark rather than float like a turtle?

When I was in primary school, I tried a lot of different sports but didn’t like them enough to continue for long. So then I decided to join the swimming club in Veldhoven and I really enjoyed it. When I moved to Maastricht I still played underwater hockey in my hometown, but I missed swimming a lot. That’s why I joined Tiburón, and I’m so glad I did! I really enjoy the practices and of course all of the fun activities together with my fellow sharkies. Even though I have been swimming for quite some years now, I’m really not the fastest so don’t expect to see me in the highest lanes anytime soon 😉.

3.   Why did you decide to become a board member?

I had secretly been thinking about joining the board as a treasurer for a while, when the candidate board told me they still needed a treasurer. I figured this was the perfect opportunity, so I signed up. Knowing who was going to be in the board also really helped. And of course having the prospect of a year with less COVID measures, thus a lot of in real life activities we’ve been all longing for.

4.   What is your position actually about? What are you doing?

As the treasurer, I manage the finances of our beloved association. I have made the budget for the year already, and will make sure we stick to it as much as we can. Before the GMAs, I will make the overview documents to present our current financial status. I will be assisted with this by the Kasco, which consist of former treasurers. Besides this, I am also head of the Shopcie. This basically means I take care of anything related to the Tiburón merch. By the way, we are still looking for some Shopcie members, if you’re interested 😉.

5.   What is your favourite Tiburón memory?

Well, I think there are many. Basically any Tiburón activity is a good memory for me haha. I always really enjoy the cantuses, but if I must choose 1, I would say the INKOM. I have been an INKOM mama for two years now, and I very much enjoyed both weeks. I love that we gain group members throughout the week, or adopt new children as we call it. And of course the Tiburón activities and hangouts with the other Tiburón groups.

6.   What are you looking forward to the most during the up coming year?

I am so excited for this whole year! All of the activities that can take place again (especially the cantuses hehe), the NSZKs, members- and trainings weekend and so much more. Besides that, I am also really looking forward to work and have fun together with the rest of my board.

Stay tuned to get to know our lovely Activities Coordinator Lea! And with that also lots of fun to everyone joining the Introduction weekend!
