1. Who are you and what are you up to, when you are not spending Time with Tiburón?
Hi, my name is Eline Akkermans, and as you might have noticed, I will be your new secretary this year. I am from Waalwijk in the Netherlands, which is very close to the Efteling. I have been studying for two years now in Maastricht and before here I studied in Leuven in Belgium. This will be my second year studying Medicine here. Next to studying you can find me most likely outside, hiking, cycling or drinking a beer on a terrace.
2. What made you decide to learn how to swim like a shark rather than float like a turtle?
Before coming to Tiburón, I swam in my hometown association. There I made a lot of friends and I really enjoyed swimming. When I came to Maastricht, I had already heard great stories about Tiburón. I really wanted to make friends here and participate in all the fun activities. So far now, all the great stories have been true!
3. Why did you decide to become a board member?
After studying for three years I was really looking forward to an extra challenge and getting to know the behind-the-scenes of this wonderful association. Throughout the year people also started talking me into it. So when this position came up, I immediately applied.
4. What is your position actually about? What are you doing?
As a secretary, I am responsible for all the communication with the members. This means I answer all your questions and respond to e-mails and keep you up to date about all activities and information. I also write the newsletters and together with my HAAIcie I design three small newsletters about Tiburón per year. So, if you are interested in helping me out with that do not hesitate to send me a message, because it will be a lot of fun. Next to that, I will also post Guides on Instagram about all kinds of stuff. And last but not least, I will have a lot of fun with you guys during all the activities!
5. What is your favourite Tiburón memory?
Last year I was on the NSZK committee and I helped organize the NSZK. Not only did the parties turn out to be amazing and everyone had a great time, but we also won that NSZK! The weekend was full of fun and adrenaline and I really enjoyed it. I personally think we were portrayed as an amazing association and those memories will always stay with me.
6. What are you looking forward to the most during the upcoming year?
I really look forward to all the amazing activities that are on the agenda and I cannot wait to have a wonderful year with my board.
