New academic year means a new Tiburón board has just been voted in! Most of have probably already seen us at practice or already know us from previous years. Nevertheless, we still want to introduce all of our board members to you over the next 5 weeks. Next to the blog you can also check out our Instagram account. There you will find a day in the life of every board member (check the highlights for that, depending when you read the blog!).
As our lovely president, Marie will make the start of this series so you finally know who the heck that girl is who is always screaming from the start block before every practice. So here you go:
1. Who are you and what are you up to, when you are not spending time with Tiburón?
Holaaa, my name is Marie Munten and I am the new president for this year. I am a 20 years old masters student in European Law from Arlon (French side of Belgium). When I am not spending time with Tiburón, I am usually found in my garden enjoying a beer with my housemates (although I tell everyone that I am studying). Otherwise, I am probably at work or back in my hometown enjoying some time with my two little sisters whom I love very much although the teenager one and I often argue (classic siblings love).
2. What made you decide to learn how to swim like a shark rather than float like a turtle?
Hahaha this is a good question! Uhm… Swimming and I always had an „on-and-off“ type of relationship. When I saw that Maastricht had a swimming club for students, I was in an „on phase“ of that relationship and decided to join and honestly, BEST DECISION EVER! Even if I am far from being the fastest shark, the speed I lack in swimming I make up for in chugging, so I guess it’s not that big of a deal.
3. Why did you decide to become a board member?
Last year, I also did a board year as Activity Coordinator. And despite the fact that I wasn’t able to organize as many events as I hoped since Miss Rona got in the way, I still very very much enjoyed it (and I have an amazing first board to thank for that, love you guys). When I saw an opportunity to have real life activities again and to have a more normal board year, I seized it immediately! And to be honest, knowing who would be in my second board also really helped nodging me in this direction.
4. What is your position actually about? What are you doing?
As president, I am in charge of the good functioning of the board and of the PR committee. This means that I plan the board meetings and make sure that everything is running smoothly for my co-board members, but also that I take charge of our external relations through our social medias or events like the INKOM, for example (did I mention that we are looking for PR committee members yet?).
5. What is your favorite Tiburón memory?
One of my best memories with Tiburón is from the night the 20th board was voted in. Unfortunately, we were not able to celebrate with the members due to corona, but we still decided to get drinks with the five of us. Long story short, my phone fell in a hole on the Markt and so much time was spent trying to retrieve it from there. It may seem a bit weird that this is amongst my best memories since it was a very stressful few hours buuut we really bonded over this that night and I guess this is what I like about this story. And of course, every single cantus has a special place in my heart as well!
6. What are you looking forward to the most during the up coming year?
Omg, there is so much to choose from! I can’t wait to meet all the new sharks, have real life activities, go to NSZKs, cobos, new board traditions,… But I guess that if I can only pick one I’d have to say that I can’t wait for members weekend!
(Also can’t wait for Sander to buy me as many beers as meters I can swim in butterfly by the end of the year 😊 Told you I wanted this in writing)
Hope you all enjoyed reading it and stay tuned for next week when our secretary will be introduced!
