Get to know your board! – President Kira Keij

04/10/2023

New academic year means a new Tiburón board has just been voted in! Most of you have probably already seen us at practice or already know us from the previous year. Nevertheless, we still want to introduce all of our board members to you.

1.   Who are you and what are you up to, when you are not spending time with Tiburón?

Hi fellow sharks, my name is Kira, and I am 20 years of age. I originally come from Eindhoven, so I did not come as far as my fellow board members. I came to Maastricht to study Biomedical sciences, and right now, I am in my bachelor’s third year. When not spending time with Tiburón, I like to do things with my friends, eat, drink cocktails, and go on holiday. Moreover, I love to be with my family and cuddle with my cats 🙂

2.  What made you decide to learn how to swim like a shark rather than float like a turtle?

When I came to Maastricht, I had been swimming for 10 years already. Therefore, I was sure that I wanted to continue that passion here as well. I joined one try-out to see how things go around here, and I signed up immediately after.

3.   Why did you decide to become a board member?

I have been looking along with the previous boards from the side lines, and I thought it was time for me to try it myself. As I really enjoyed the previous two years at Tiburón, I wish to give other sharks that same experience!

4.   What is your position actually about? What are you doing?

As a president, It is my job to make sure everything runs smoothly, and that everything is being done on time. Additionally, it is to me to maintain good relationships with our brother (the other spots associations from Maastricht) and sister associations (the other swimming associations throughout the Netherlands). Moreover, I will make sure Tiburón is able to join the Batavieren race, and lastly, it is my job to make sure Tiburón is well represented during the INKOM! In short, I am the face of Tiburón for upcoming year.

5.   What is your favourite Tiburón memory?

This is, honestly, a difficult question, as there are so many wonderful activities throughout the season. However, I feel like my first members weekend, two years ago, is one of my favourite memories. That weekend had a theme which required preparations that were so funny already. Furthermore, there were many exciting games throughout the weekend, and of course a wonderful cantus in the end! I just had so much fun during the weekend, and made memories that will last forever!

6.   What are you looking forward to the most during the up coming year?

I am really looking forward to getting to know the new sharks, and members of other associations. Furthermore, I am enthusiastic about spending loads of time together with my board 🙂 Lastly, I reckon the upcoming activities will be very joyful, which makes me very excited, and I hope you too!
